KIMBERLEY COAST CRUISE
Last month I was fortunate enough to be Artist-in-Residence on board the Eco Abrolhos, cruising the Kimberley Coast. This is one painting I did on my return. It was quite an experience, painting Plein Air on board. The boat swinging on it’s anchor presented quite a few difficulties, along with moving shadows. The subject, starting off in front of me ended up at my back! Good fun at first but after chasing around with my easel on several occasions, I did eventually tire of it. With the light changing all the time, a swinging boat and at times, a pitching vessel, the challenges continued throughout the trip. Altogether though i completed 8 paintings – selling 7 of them. The landscape itself was spectacular and I can’t wait to paint some larger work in the studio.
Altogether an experience I would not have missed. And with our one patch of very rough weather, taking my seasickness tablets early meant I was not incapacitated with sickness. I simply can’t wait for my next cruise on board the Eco Abrolhos to the Abrolhos Islands and the very beautiful coral reefs of the area. This cruise is now full.
