As you may be able to guess this photo was taken on my last trip to Hawks Nest a few weeks ago. I have been painting Hawks Nest for about the last 25 years and it still has a special place in my heart. the beautiful curvaceous dunes of the area have been pretty well flattened by huge storms in recent times so I felt quite disappointed to see this. However storms over the dunes of Jimmy’s Beach well and truly made up for it. Wow – I think Nelson Bay really copped it. I have just completed a large painting of those storms with a sunny foreground on the dunes and a pitch black sky which is quite dramatic.
