FESTIVAL OF TWO PALETTES – MORPETH

FESTIVAL OF TWO PALETTES – MORPETH

On the weekend of the 11-12th March 2017 Morpeth Gallery (near Newcastle) held their Festival of Two Palettes. being the first time I have been there I was amazed at the amount of people who attended throughout the weekend. It was so busy!  Although not able to go on the Saturday I did travel up and painted in the gallery on the Sunday – as did many other artists. The gallery was beautifully presented and had a great atmosphere. Think about visiting...

ABROLHOS ISLANDS

ABROLHOS ISLANDS

I  have one more major trip on board the Eco Abrolhos this year and it is the one I am most looking forward to. If you have never heard of the Abrolhos Islands then read the book by Peter Fitzsimmons. The Batavia was ship-wrecked hundreds of years ago when it ran aground on one of the reefs surrounding the Abrolhos Island group. The story of the ensuing fight for survival is both brutal and fascinating. Renowned artist Larry Mitchell has also painted this amazing place with...

KIMBERLEY COAST CRUISE

KIMBERLEY COAST CRUISE

Last month I was fortunate enough to be Artist-in-Residence on board the Eco Abrolhos, cruising the Kimberley Coast. This is one painting I did on my return. I have also been travelling quite a lot this year as well, my last trip being to Gladstone in Queensland only a couple of months ago. The real highlight of my year so far has been the fulfillment of my long-awaited boat trip on Lake Burragorang with Water...

HAWKS NEST FLANNEL FLOWERS

HAWKS NEST FLANNEL FLOWERS

Another wonderful aspect of Hawks Nest was the huge amount of Flannel Flowers along the road to Mungo Brush. I have never seen so many. They were thick along the sides of the road and into the bush. Absolutely beautiful. The dunes along the same road are threatening to engulf the road in places and I have not seen the sand so close to the road before. Not sure what will happen there!

HAWKS NEST SAND DUNES

HAWKS NEST SAND DUNES

As you may be able to guess this photo was taken on my last trip to Hawks Nest a few weeks ago. I have been painting Hawks Nest for about the last 25 years and it still has a special place in my heart. the beautiful curvaceous dunes of the area have been pretty well flattened by huge storms in recent times so I felt quite disappointed to see this. However storms over the dunes of Jimmy’s Beach well and truly made up for it. Wow – I think Nelson Bay really copped...
