KIMBERLEY COAST CRUISE

KIMBERLEY COAST CRUISE

Last month I was fortunate enough to be Artist-in-Residence on board the Eco Abrolhos, cruising the Kimberley Coast. This is one painting I did on my return. It was quite an experience, painting Plein Air on board. The boat swinging on it’s anchor presented quite a few difficulties, along with moving shadows. The subject, starting off in front of me ended up at my back! Good fun at first but after chasing around with my easel on several occasions, I did eventually...

BOAT TRIP ON LAKE BURRAGORANG

BOAT TRIP ON LAKE BURRAGORANG

I must apologise for not having updated my Blog for some time. I’m afraid I have been sidetracked somewhat with finalising my 2016 exhibition and all that goes with the painting, framing and presentation of a show. I have also been travelling quite a lot this year as well, my last trip being to Gladstone in Queensland only a couple of months ago. The real highlight of my year so far has been the fulfillment of my long-awaited boat trip on Lake Burragorang with Water...

HAWKS NEST FLANNEL FLOWERS

HAWKS NEST FLANNEL FLOWERS

Another wonderful aspect of Hawks Nest was the huge amount of Flannel Flowers along the road to Mungo Brush. I have never seen so many. They were thick along the sides of the road and into the bush. Absolutely beautiful. The dunes along the same road are threatening to engulf the road in places and I have not seen the sand so close to the road before. Not sure what will happen there!

HAWKS NEST SAND DUNES

HAWKS NEST SAND DUNES

As you may be able to guess this photo was taken on my last trip to Hawks Nest a few weeks ago. I have been painting Hawks Nest for about the last 25 years and it still has a special place in my heart. the beautiful curvaceous dunes of the area have been pretty well flattened by huge storms in recent times so I felt quite disappointed to see this. However storms over the dunes of Jimmy’s Beach well and truly made up for it. Wow – I think Nelson Bay really copped...

CRUISING THE ABROLHOS ISLANDS

CRUISING THE ABROLHOS ISLANDS

I am so excited about my second Artist-in-Residence aboard the ECO ABROLHOS! Although I won’t actively be painting, I will be collecting reference material of an area I have long wanted to visit and paint. This is cruising the Abrolhos Group of Islands about 60km’s west of Geraldton. The magnificent but treacherous reefs in the area have claimed many shipwrecks – notably the Batavia in 1629. Peter Fitzsimmons book called Batavia is a great read for anyone...

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE -2016

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE -2016

My number one news at the moment is an ARTIST IN RESIDENCE – painting aboard the ECO ABROLHOS as we cruise the beautiful Kimberley Coast. I have, for a long time, wanted to visit this area as it is one part of Australia I haven’t seen. I love the Kimberley and I love water so to put them both together in paintings seems to make sense to me. It is a pristine wilderness area of great beauty where birds abound – just up my alley as a wilderness artist. To see...
