HAWKS NEST SAND DUNES

HAWKS NEST SAND DUNES

As you may be able to guess this photo was taken on my last trip to Hawks Nest a few weeks ago. I have been painting Hawks Nest for about the last 25 years and it still has a special place in my heart. the beautiful curvaceous dunes of the area have been pretty well flattened by huge storms in recent times so I felt quite disappointed to see this. However storms over the dunes of Jimmy’s Beach well and truly made up for it. Wow – I think Nelson Bay really copped...

CRUISING THE ABROLHOS ISLANDS

CRUISING THE ABROLHOS ISLANDS

I am so excited about my second Artist-in-Residence aboard the ECO ABROLHOS! Although I won’t actively be painting, I will be collecting reference material of an area I have long wanted to visit and paint. This is cruising the Abrolhos Group of Islands about 60km’s west of Geraldton. The magnificent but treacherous reefs in the area have claimed many shipwrecks – notably the Batavia in 1629. ARTIST IN RESIDENCE -2016

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE -2016

My number one news at the moment is an ARTIST IN RESIDENCE – painting aboard the ECO ABROLHOS as we cruise the beautiful Kimberley Coast. I have, for a long time, wanted to visit this area as it is one part of Australia I haven’t seen. I love the Kimberley and I love water so to put them both together in paintings seems to make sense to me. It is a pristine wilderness area of great beauty where birds abound – just up my alley as a wilderness artist. To see...

ANOTHER EARLY MORNING

ANOTHER EARLY MORNING

Wow – I can’t believe that I was up at 4.45 to pick my sister and stepfather and mother for an early morning photography session down at Yarramundi – 25 minutes away. Even so we arrived just a tad too late as we missed some fantastic photographs on the way in our efforts to arrive before a subtle mist and pink skies vanished! As you can see, the reflections were perfect and the mood awesome! Many paintings out of this set of reference material and no doubt...

WAITING FOR THE SUNRISE

WAITING FOR THE SUNRISE

I loved doing this painting! On a recent trip to the Central Coast I was up at 5 a.m. (quick cup of coffee to get me going) and out on to the beach well before sunrise. I waited patiently for the sun to appear for about an hour or more. It was actually obliterated by a band of cloud to the East, but I made the most of that very special time of day. What I hadn’t foreseen was the beauty of the pre-dawn at low tide. Well worth the early rise to view the ocean – as...
